Assessment is a systematic, integrated, collaborative, ongoing process emphasizing student learning. Assessment focuses on: establishing clear, measurable learning outcomes; providing learning opportunities for students to achieve those outcomes; assessing student learning by systematically gathering, 分析, and interpreting evidence to determine how well student achievement matches expectations; and using resulting information (i.e., assessment results) to review and enhance student learning (Suskie, 2009).

The Office of Academic Assessment (OAA) was created in 2013 to establish an infrastructure for academic assessment at BGSU. OAA provides systematic support for the assessment of University, 通识教育, and programmatic learning outcomes, and coordinates the collection and distribution of institutional and programmatic assessment data. OAA reviews and provides feedback on learning outcomes and assessment methods to align with best practices, identifies strategies for using assessment results for continuous improvement of student learning, and develops plans for effective distribution of assessment results. OAA organizes curricular and co-curricular assessment practices, 流程, and committees (including the Student Achievement Assessment Committee and the Co-curricular Assessment Committee).

OAA coordinates a variety of assessment-related activities both internal (e.g., 评估报告, 毕业调查数据, 机构调查, engagement of students in the assessment process, and the University-wide 教学评价 and 学习 course evaluations) and external (e.g., National Survey of 学生参与).
